A message from the Principal and Head of Academy

"We are part of something special here." This sentiment encapsulates for me and Mr Field, the warmth of feeling and sense of pride that belonging to George Spencer Academy engenders in students, staff and friends of the school.

George Spencer is a unique school. It has been transformed from a small 11-16 school 50 years ago to a high performing, successful school and 6th Form that "provides an outstanding education for its students", Ofsted 2010. It has a tradition of excellence and, as a Leading Edge and Training School, is at the forefront nationally of innovation, teaching excellence and individualised learning.

Our innovative "Spencer Time" curriculum enables students to gain the highest qualifications, acquire flexible life-long learning skills, and be ready to act responsibly as global citizens. Our 2009 GCSE results 98% 5A*C and 74% 5A*C with English and Maths places us in the top 5% of schools in the country and for which we have received three top awards from the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust.

Our teachers are highly qualified, enthusiastic and passionate about finding the best teaching methods for each students to personally succeed in their learning throughout their seven years with us. We know our students exceptionally well as individuals and develop a deep understanding of their strengths and weaknesses and how they learn best. Teachers provide excellent challenge and support for students of all abilities, whether they will be high performing or in need of extra help with literacy and numeracy.

Traditional values of respect, courtesy and politeness are a way of life at George Spencer. We have high expectations of self-discipline, behaviour and uniform, attendance and punctuality so that students are prepared for the world of work. There is an extensive range of extra-curricular activities and opportunities for personal development and well being, including student leadership.
